You are a Finnish tax resident, work for a private employer and are insured in Finland under TyEL and unemployment insurance. You are not an entrepreneur or a co-owner of your employer; no foreign insurance or contribution exemption applies.

Is this one cash payment for the whole month?

From one employer. No company car, phone benefit, tax-exempt reimbursements, advances, garnishments, union deductions or corrections to earlier payments.

Is your tax card valid and will you remain within its income limit?

You have an ordinary salary tax card (verokortti), not a tax-at-source card. Including this payment, your income stays within its income limit (tuloraja).

Examples and answers

Two calculation examples

Teaching examples for the supported profile: one payment for October 2026, within the income limit of a valid tax card. These illustrate the arithmetic of the Mayak model; they are not official payslips.

20% and 0% are used only for explanation. They are not typical rates or recommendations: enter the percentage from your own valid card. At 0%, employee insurance contributions still apply.

How to estimate take-home pay from an hourly rate

In the calculator form, select “Hourly pay”. Enter your rate before deductions in €/h and hours for the month, then the percentage on your valid tax card, payment month and profile confirmations. No fixed number of working hours is assumed.

Hourly rate × monthly hours = monthly gross pay. The product is rounded to a euro cent, then net pay uses the same model as “I know my gross pay”. The conditions for one payment for the whole month and the other profile limits still apply.

Teaching example: €20/h × 150 hours = €3,000.00 gross. At a tax card rate of 20%, estimated take-home pay is €2,154.30, as above. This is an arithmetic example for October 2026 and the supported profile, not a typical rate, a recommended tax percentage or a payment guarantee.

Supplements, holiday pay and overtime are not added automatically. The calculator does not determine rates or entitlement to these payments; your employer’s actual payment may differ.

Frequently asked questions

What does the calculator estimate?

Take-home pay after tax card withholding and two employee contributions for one cash payment for a whole month in Finland in 2026. It works only for the confirmed profile and does not calculate final annual tax.

How do I convert hourly pay to take-home pay?

Use “Hourly pay”: the rate before deductions and monthly hours give gross pay, then the entered tax card percentage and employee contributions apply. The steps and example are above. Mayak does not determine your individual tax percentage.

Does hourly mode include supplements and overtime?

No. It automatically includes only the entered rate multiplied by the hours. Supplements, holiday pay and higher overtime rates are not calculated separately. The result is not a complete payslip; it applies only to the supported profile and entered data.

Where do I find my tax card percentage?

Use the basic percentage — perusprosentti — on your already issued, valid Vero salary tax card (verokortti). Use your own card, not an example percentage.

Does Mayak calculate my individual tax percentage?

No. You enter an already issued percentage; Mayak uses it to estimate withholding from this payment.

What is TyEL?

TyEL is the employee pension contribution. For the supported profile in 2026 it is 7.30% of gross pay. This version does not calculate other insurance arrangements or special statuses.

Why is health insurance not deducted separately?

For the supported profile it is already included in the ordinary tax card percentage. Deducting it again would count it twice.

What if I will exceed the tax card income limit?

An additional percentage may apply above the card’s income limit. Mayak does not check accumulated income or calculate the excess. Do not confirm the income-limit condition; check your card and Vero’s information. This circumstance is outside this version’s scope.

Which circumstances are not supported?

Examples include entrepreneurs and co-owners of their employer, foreign insurance/A1, benefits in kind, multiple payments and other deductions. The age, amount and other conditions are in the form and model scope. If a condition is unknown, choose “I don’t know”: no valid monetary result is provided without the required confirmations.

Methodology and sources

Finland · rules for 2026. Methodology basis and source verification: .

This estimates one cash payment for a whole month from one employer. You enter the basic percentage on an already issued, valid tax card. Mayak does not determine your individual tax percentage or automatically check accumulated income or the card’s income limit.

  • Tax withholding — the entered tax card percentage of the original gross pay.
  • Employee TyEL — 7.30% of the original gross pay.
  • Employee unemployment insurance — 0.89% of the original gross pay.
  • Net pay — gross pay minus these three deductions.

Each deduction uses the full original amount, not the balance after another deduction. For the supported profile, health insurance is already included in the ordinary tax card percentage and is not deducted again. Employer contributions are not deducted.

Rounding and model version

Each deduction is separately rounded to the nearest euro cent; an exact half-cent rounds up (HALF_UP). For tax withholding this is confirmed by Vero, section 4.1.1.

For TyEL and unemployment insurance, HALF_UP is a technical convention of algorithm v1. A separate statutory half-cent rounding rule for these two contributions was not confirmed in the reviewed material. We do not present this convention as a legal requirement.

Ruleset: fi-2026-tax-card-net-rules-v1. Algorithm: fi-tax-card-net-half-up-v1.

Who this version supports

A Finnish tax resident with an ordinary salary tax card, working in Finland for a private employer and insured under TyEL and unemployment insurance. Not an entrepreneur or co-owner of the employer, with no international insurance exceptions.

Ages 18–64; the months of the 18th and 65th birthdays are excluded. One fully taxable cash payment for the whole month of at least €71.72. Income including this payment stays within the valid card’s income limit.

No benefits in kind, tax-exempt reimbursements, advances, garnishments, union deductions or corrections to earlier payments. These are service limits, not exemptions from taxes or contributions for unsupported circumstances.

Unknown conditions, unsupported circumstances and insufficient cash for all deductions produce no monetary result. Carrying deductions forward to later payments is not modelled.

Official sources

Mayak is not an official tax authority service. The result is not final annual tax or a guarantee of your employer’s payment. An independent review of the model by a payroll specialist in Finland has not been completed.
